McCain Does Not Get It!

McCain does not understand what is driving this Bailout debate. McCain put out a statement regarding the suspension of his campaign that reveals his complete lack of understanding of this crisis. His statment reads:
Following September 11th, our national leaders came together at a time of crisis. We must show that kind of patriotism now. Americans across our country lament the fact that partisan divisions in Washington have prevented us from addressing our national challenges. Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country.
First, the debate is not being held up by a lack of patriotism. McCain says he wants to "prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country." The problem with that is that the people are not clamoring for Washington to act! They are demanding that Washington NOT act! The American People don't want a bailout of Wall Street. This is not 9/11, we don't have a clear enemy. This is a debate about our national priorities and our economy and not a question of patriotism.

Second, he refers to partisan divisions preventing us from addressing our national challenges. That may be true in many regards, but not as it relates to this Wall Street bailout debate. At the heart of this debate are issues of class, not partisanship. I think, in large part, Republicans and Democrats despise the idea of bailing out Wall Street. What is dividing Washington on this bailout debate is the elite ex-Wall Street government officials attempting to ram through legislation that is unfair to the average American. I don't think John McCain understands that.

The last thing people need is John McCain injecting Presidential politics into an already complicated debate. As a side note, for John McCain to go to Washington to represent the American people in a debate on issues of class is absurd. We might as well send the King of England. In fact, the Country is much better served if McCain and Obama have debate on the future of this Country. If McCain wants to put the Country First he would suspend the Lipstick and Celebrity ads for a substantive debate on the future of this country.

With regard to the debate, one thing is for sure: McCain puts procrastination first!
